Copper Exhibition | Anhui Chunjun New Materials’ 100,000-Ton Cathode Copper Project Enters Steel Structure Installation Phase

The 100,000-ton-per-year cathode copper project of Anhui Chunjun New Materials Co., Ltd. has reached a major milestone. On August 12, at the project’s construction site in Tongling, Anhui Province, a triangular steel roof truss with a 33-meter span and weighing 7.7 tons was successfully hoisted and precisely positioned at its designated height of 15 meters. This achievement marks the official commencement of the project’s main steel structure installation.

The project is being executed by Tongguan Construction & Installation Co., a local contractor with expertise in copper industry facilities. As a critical component of the copper value chain, cathode copper production demands stringent standards for plant stability and safety. The triangular truss design offers strong load-bearing capacity and excellent seismic performance, ensuring that the electrolytic workshops meet the requirements of this specialized production environment.

Tongling is one of China’s most important copper industry hubs, with a fully integrated value chain spanning mining, smelting, and fabrication. The Chunjun project will further strengthen the region’s copper materials supply capacity and enhance supporting facilities for downstream deep-processing industries. Equipped with advanced electrolytic refining technology, the plant will produce cathode copper with purity levels exceeding 99.95%, primarily for applications in high-end manufacturing sectors such as power cables and electronic circuits.

To ensure safe and precise installation of the large-span steel structures, the construction team implemented a tailored lifting plan. Due to site constraints and the high precision required, a large crawler crane was used in coordination with a GPS positioning system to complete the hoisting. Project managers noted that the successful truss installation has laid a solid foundation for subsequent structural work, with the overall project expected to proceed on schedule.

Driven by growth in new energy and electronics industries, demand for high-purity cathode copper continues to rise. This project will not only help meet downstream market demand but also accelerate Tongling’s shift toward higher value-added copper production. Once operational, it is expected to generate annual output worth around RMB 5 billion (approx. USD 690 million) and create several hundred new jobs.

Industry observers emphasize that the commissioning of such large-scale copper smelting projects highlights the sector’s transition toward greater efficiency and higher-end applications. With modern plant design and advanced refining processes, the new generation of copper projects are achieving notable improvements in environmental performance and energy efficiency, supporting the sustainable development of China’s non-ferrous metals industry.
